Two weeks ago I had a quiet conversation with my Dad. He and my Mom came by the house and we decided to cook some burgers. While I was flipping the burgers me and my Dad got caught up on what we were up to. I told him a bit about selling Mexican car insurance online and some of the coverages involved. He told me about the time that he went to Mexico and decided to make an early return to bypass the heat of the day. I guess that the Mexican police decided that only drug runners travel at 3 oclock in the morning. Anyway he was pulled over several times and queried about his activities.

Things will be different in Mexico. They talk a different language and they have different customs, and nearly everything is simply a little bit different south of the border. I have included a catalogue of some of the things that you should be expecting to be different on your holiday.

• • Green service trucks are good. They are the Green Angels or “Angeles Verdes,” and they patrol the toll roads to offer free roadside assistance to travelers.
• • Request a written ticket from police officers in Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada and Mexicali because you can send your fine in the mail from the United States.
• • All speed limits signs are posted in kilometers and 1 mile is equal to 1.6 kilometers.
• • You don’t have much time to merge lanes.
• • There is no so called fast lane. That empty lane to the left is a passing lane only, and you should move back over once you pass.

Prior to going, make sure that you get Mexican car insurance, because it is regarded as a transgression to drive in Mexico without it. Now, I’m of the opinion that you insurance agent told you that his policy provided coverage inside a limited distance in Mexico, and it doesnt matter. The question is not whether or not there’s coverage for the accident, but whether or not you can prove to the Mexican law enforcement officials that you’ve got insurance coverage. Remember that they dont read English and dont have any US records, and cant determine any coverage. Additionally, not all insurance carriers provided coverage outside the US so you cant blame him for being dubious of your evidence of insurance card.
