Your home is your most precious possession

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Nothing hits us as bad as financial troubles, especially when they involve the home; fortunately, eventualities that could cost a great deal of money can be guarded against without too much bother. Other threats of course come from people in the form of arson or vandalism caused when a burglar doesn’t find what they are looking for, and sometimes even when they do. To help prevent complete loss of a home or personal possessions, an agreement can be made between the homeowner and an insurance company to pay for these items provided a premium is paid in a contract called homeowner insurance.

Examples of things covered under a typical house insurance policy might be theft, fire, vandalism, or other damage to your property. Most policies have a deductible but considering the amount of money that may actually be paid out in the event of a major catastrophe then this amount is normally quite small in comparison.

To make arranging homeowners insurance simple, many websites now exist to deal with protecting the home and personal possessions by insurers that may not even have a ‘real’ presence. It doesn’t take that long to visit a decent number of websites to obtain quotes from all of them and see what you can get from each for the monthly premium they are asking.

This is an ideal opportunity to choose a policy that suits your needs and not decide on applying to the company that provides the lowest insurance quote! Even people that have mortgages will be required by the lender to ensure their house has a homeowners insurance policy in force.

If you looking to switch your current provider, then many insurers offer special deals for new customers which often save the equivalent of two or three monthly premiums. It is also surprising how much the monthly premium can be reduced by adjusting the deductible from say 500 dollars to 1,000 dollars, so why not try it.

It is also worth arranging for your policy to ensure that new goods are bought at today’s prices otherwise replacing possessions may be very difficult. This is one of the most important checks to make when taking out a policy; ensuring you have a Replacement Value plan so trips to budget and discount stores are not required.

Your home is your most precious possession, not only by the virtue of the building structure but also the belongings that it houses. Before you finally make your decision, make sure that as many items that are precious to you are covered by your homeowners insurance policy because if something happens that you didn’t include, you could be out of pocket.

Get a pet insurance

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Although the number of pet owners in the States is on the rise, most of those owners will not obtain pet insurance; these animals are however, generally considered a part of every family. Most Americans are quick to arrange their own health insurance; we should, therefore, not neglect our pets this way.

Many do not consider this an important matter; however, pet owners soon realize that vets bills are costly and it doesn’t take much treatment for them to enter into four figure bills. In the last ten years there have been many areas that have seen price increases and vets are amongst them; many people have seen their pet insurance premium increase as a consequence.

So if the ever-increasing cost of pet health cover does not convince you to act, what will? Anyone who owns a domestic animal needs to be prepared for health problems occasionally; when this happens, the cost of treatment may even cause financial strain.

If you are in this unenviable position then a choice may have to be made; the last thing you want to think about is how you will pay for your animal to have urgent treatment.

It was a huge shock when the vet informed us of the cost to treat our dog some time ago; although he is a part of my family, I did wonder at the time (I feel ashamed now), if the cost was worth it. The problem is you really don’t know if your pet is going to pull through; there are no guarantees as complications are not uncommon.

The financial aspect of looking after a pet is something that must be considered carefully; no-one wants this to cause them financial problems. If you are experiencing money worries then raising additional finances can prove embarrassing.

Financial difficulties are the number one reason why pets do not receive proper attention; if you have pet insurance you can guarantee they will get the best treatment your policy will allow. Although pet healthcare insurance costs are rising they are not going to break the bank; these can be arranged for as little as twenty dollars or so per month although better policies will cost twice that.

Some insurance providers can arrange pet healthcare policies to meet certain needs; possibly to meet certain financial requirements. Hopefully this article will make pet owners think again about their responsibility; perhaps the information supplied here has made things are a little clearer now and you won’t delay further.

Critical Illness Insurance

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Considering health plans at a young age isn’t easy especially when you’re healthy but that does not mean you will not require protection at some point; increasing numbers of people are arranging critical illness insurance to help provide peace of mind should the worst happen. After all, you are providing for the financial needs of your family in the future if something untoward happens where you will no longer be around to help them in person.

Research has shown that planning for critical illness is a wise move as statistically the chance of this happening is actually high, so much so that insurance providers now offer this type of policy quite routinely.

The figures speak for themselves with around twenty percent of men diagnosed with a critical condition before they reach retirement. Women fair a little better with around 15 percent being diagnosed prior to retirement.

Of course, most people do not actually feel they require critical illness insurance and would explain why they are so reluctant to start a plan. The most common application of critical illness cover is when it is added to a mortgage to ensure that the repayment continue irrespective of the health of the borrower.

Since the advent of the Internet as a marketing and sales tool, insurance companies have promoted their products online and in recent years there has been an increase in online insurance applications. Unfortunately, being a relatively new facility, there are new problems that occur as more companies start offering services over the Internet for the first time. Even if a policy is applied for online there is still the problem of organizing a physical examination as no insurance provider wants to have existing, possibly expensive medical conditions, to pay out for from the start. If you have to make a claim on your critical illness insurance policy, the last thing you want is insensitivity or apparent non co-operation from your insurer.

Of course smokers will pay more for their cover, even if they have given up within the previous year as they are still believed to be in a high risk group. Insurance companies place smoking at the top of their list but other areas of your life can affect how much you pay for your premium like your age, physical health, activities you may participate in and the type of work you do.

So although a person may be suffering with a terminal illness; critical illness insurance will ensure medical expenses, as well as living expenses are met. Family responsibilities are never easy but ensuring your family is looked after if you are diagnosed with a terminal condition does not have to cost the earth.
